Catch-All Email in cPanel, Namecheap and GoDaddy: Step-by-Step
How to set up a catch-all address in cPanel (Default Address), Namecheap forwarding and Private Email, and GoDaddy Professional Email, plus the spam trade-off.
- catch-all email
- cPanel
- Namecheap
- GoDaddy
- email forwarding
If your domain’s email runs through shared hosting or your registrar, you probably already have a catch-all option. It just goes by different names: Default Address in cPanel, Add catch all or Catch-all Mailbox at Namecheap, a catch-all toggle at GoDaddy. All of them do the same job: mail sent to an address that does not exist on your domain is delivered somewhere instead of bouncing.
Below are the steps for each, based on the providers’ own help pages as checked on 2 November 2026. Panels get redesigned, so if a label differs slightly, look for the same option nearby. For background on what a catch-all actually does at the server level, see what a catch-all email address is.
First, find out who handles your mail
The catch-all has to be set wherever your domain’s MX records point. A domain registered at Namecheap but using Google Workspace for mail needs the Google Workspace catch-all rule, not a Namecheap setting. Check your MX records in your DNS panel, then use the matching section below.
cPanel: Default Address
cPanel calls the catch-all the Default Address: where “unrouted” mail goes, meaning mail for addresses that have no mailbox or forwarder.
- Log in to cPanel and open Email > Default Address.
- Under Send all unrouted email for the following domain, pick the domain from the drop-down.
- Select Forward to Email Address and enter the mailbox that should receive everything. This can be a mailbox on the same hosting account or an outside address.
- Click Change.
The other options on that page are worth knowing:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Discard the email while your server processes it by SMTP time with an error message | Rejects unknown addresses; the sender gets an error. This is the “no catch-all” setting. |
| Forward to Email Address | The catch-all. |
| Forward to your system account (advanced) | Delivers to the hosting account’s main mailbox. |
| Pipe to a Program (advanced) | Hands each message to a script on the server. |
| Discard (Not Recommended) (advanced) | Silently deletes unknown-address mail with no notice to the sender. |
cPanel’s documentation adds two cautions. If spammers target your domain, the default address may receive a large amount of spam. And domain-level forwarders override the default address, so if one exists, the Default Address setting will appear not to work.
Many hosts run cPanel under their own branding, including Namecheap’s shared hosting and GoDaddy’s cPanel hosting plans, so these steps apply there too.
Namecheap
Namecheap has two separate catch-all paths depending on which email service the domain uses.
Free Email Forwarding
For domains that use Namecheap’s free forwarding (no mailbox, just forwarding to another inbox):
- Make sure the domain’s mail settings use Namecheap’s email forwarding.
- In Domain List, click Manage next to the domain and find the Redirect Email section.
- Click Add catch all and enter the address where everything should go.
- Save.
Namecheap notes that the catch-all can forward to one destination only, and that free forwarding cannot run alongside Private Email or another mail service on the same domain.
Namecheap Private Email
If you pay for Private Email mailboxes, the catch-all is a setting on the subscription:
- In Domain List, choose All products and open Manage for the Private Email subscription.
- Pick a mailbox in the Catch-all Mailbox drop-down.
Namecheap says the change takes effect immediately, and warns about the same downside as cPanel: spammers can generate random addresses on your domain, and all of it ends up in the catch-all mailbox.
GoDaddy
GoDaddy’s steps depend on which email product the domain has. Check it in the Email & Office Dashboard first.
Professional Email
- Open the Email & Office Dashboard and select the user account that should receive catch-all mail.
- Edit the account information and turn on the catch-all option.
- Save.
GoDaddy allows one catch-all account per domain. If another account is already the catch-all, you will be asked to confirm moving it.
Email Forwarding
GoDaddy’s forwarding product can also act as a catch-all: when creating a forward, select the catch-all option so it receives mail for any address that does not exist on the domain.
Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy
The Professional Email steps do not apply. Microsoft 365 has no single catch-all switch, and it needs a different setup on the Exchange side.
cPanel hosting at GoDaddy
Use the cPanel steps above.
Things that go wrong
“It still bounces.” Check that the MX records point at the service where you set the catch-all, and allow time for DNS changes to propagate if you changed them.
“Mail goes somewhere else.” In cPanel, a domain forwarder takes precedence over the Default Address. At Namecheap, existing mailboxes and aliases are matched before the catch-all.
“Everything lands in spam.” When the catch-all forwards to Gmail or another big provider, forwarded mail from unknown senders is filed as spam more often. Check that folder first, or read the catch-all mailbox directly instead of forwarding it.
“The inbox is unusable.” That is the spam trade-off all three providers warn about. Point the catch-all at a dedicated mailbox, not your personal one.
When a hosting catch-all is enough, and when it is not
For a business domain, a hosting catch-all is the right tool. It catches typos, lets you hand out one address per supplier or service, and costs nothing extra on most plans.
It fits less well when the catch-all exists to feed software. SEO and account-creation tools such as GSA Search Engine Ranker, RankerX or XRumer register accounts at volume and poll a mailbox over POP3 or IMAP for confirmation links. A shared-hosting mailbox can come with storage quotas and sending or receiving limits set by the host, and a domain used for mass registrations can end up on blocklists. You do not want that to happen to the domain your website and business mail live on.
For that job a separate catch-all domain works better: one that exists only to receive, with POP3 and IMAP credentials your tool reads directly, and that can be replaced without touching anything else. AllMail provides exactly that for SEO tools, with setup guides for GSA SER, RankerX and XRumer.
Questions
Where is the catch-all setting in cPanel?
Under Email > Default Address. Select the domain, choose Forward to Email Address, enter the destination and click Change.
Does Namecheap support catch-all email?
Yes, in two ways: Add catch all in the Redirect Email section for free forwarding, or the Catch-all Mailbox drop-down for Private Email.
Can GoDaddy have more than one catch-all per domain?
No. GoDaddy Professional Email allows one catch-all account per domain.
Is a catch-all bad for my domain?
Receiving with a catch-all does not harm your sending reputation, but it increases the spam you receive, which all three providers point out. Use a dedicated mailbox for it.
Can I use the catch-all mailbox with GSA SER?
Technically yes, if the host gives you POP3 or IMAP access. Expect host-imposed limits and keep your business domain out of it; see how GSA SER uses catch-all email.
